Since the sheer amount of information coming out is difficult to keep up with, and since there are others who do a far more competent job analyzing the news than yours truly, I’m going to try something new to try to keep up: Instead of trying to have a blog post for every interesting piece of news out there, I’m going to have a “Birthpangs of the Day” feature that links to interesting news of the last few days (up to a week) that I think is prophetically relevant, with a brief quote and/or explanatory (and possibly snarky) paragraph. So, with no further ado, here’s our first “Birthpangs of the Day”:
Turkey Going Nuclear
“A quiet but intense debate is ongoing within senior circles of the governing Adalet ve Kalkinma Partisi (Justice and Development Party: AKP) in Turkey over whether or not this is the time to proceed rapidly with the development and acquisition of nuclear weapons.” That’s not good, but it’s not surprising either. As Bob Woodward points out,
The news that Turkey is considering ‘going nuclear’ is a game changer, and it should shake the Obama Administration to its core. A nuclear-armed Turkey would ride a coach-and-horses through Obama’s chief foreign policy goal of ‘getting to zero,’ and it would expose his profoundly foolish strategy of neglecting traditional allies in order to engage America’s enemies. It would legitimize Iran’s illicit pursuit of nuclear weapons, and it would so profoundly change the balance of power in the Middle East that the ramifications could not be predicted with certainty for decades.
Oliver Stone: ‘Jewish-Dominated Media’ Prevents Hitler from Being Portrayed ‘in Context’
“Director Oliver Stone belittled the Holocaust during a shocking interview with the Sunday Times today, claiming that America’s focus on the Jewish massacre was a product of the ‘Jewish domination of the media.’ The director also defended Hitler and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and railed against the “powerful lobby” of Jews in America.” Was there ever a dictator that Stone didn’t like? (No.) It seems like a lot of people are trying to rehabilitate Hitler and downplay the Holocaust lately. Maye Van Kampen was right after all.
Palestinians oppose ending the occupation
“Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman’s plan to assist the Gaza Strip in becoming an independent entity has encountered wall-to-wall Palestinian opposition. The dual-headed Palestinian regime in Ramallah (Fatah) and in the Gaza Strip (Hamas) totally rejects Lieberman’s proposal to recruit the European Union to build power stations to supply electricity, desalination stations and a sewage treatment plant. This was to be part of a plan that would totally sever all connections with Israel, which would forgo its naval supervision over merchandise entering the port of Gaza and would totally seal the border with the Gaza Strip.”
‘iDosing’, the latest digital drug high available on Internet
Special thanks to Derek Gilbert for bringing this one to my attention. I’m not sure what to make of it yet; perhaps it’s nothing but hype, or perhaps it’s a form of hypnosis. If the latter, it could very well open up those partaking to things that are better left alone.
Augusta State University to student: Accept homosexuality or leave school
“An Augusta State University counseling student has filed a lawsuit against her school claiming it violated her First Amendment rights when it told her to change her traditionalist Christian views on homosexuality or get out. . . . The suit alleges the university retaliated against Keeton for stating her belief that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice and not a ‘state of being,’ and that gender is not a social construct subject to individual change. According to the suit, the school wants her to undergo a ‘thought reform’ program intended to change her religious beliefs. She faces expulsion unless she complies, and the suit seeks to block the university from throwing her out for noncompliance.”
Of course, we’re the intolerant ones here.
