I’m keeping this brief, since today is my anniversary, but I couldn’t let this little news item from the Times Online pass without comment:
Saudi Arabia has conducted tests to stand down its air defences to enable Israeli jets to make a bombing raid on Iran’s nuclear facilities, The Times can reveal.
In the week that the UN Security Council imposed a new round of sanctions on Tehran, defence sources in the Gulf say that Riyadh has agreed to allow Israel to use a narrow corridor of its airspace in the north of the country to shorten the distance for a bombing run on Iran.
To ensure the Israeli bombers pass unmolested, Riyadh has carried out tests to make certain its own jets are not scrambled and missile defence systems not activated. Once the Israelis are through, the kingdom’s air defences will return to full alert.
I’ve suspected for the last year or so that this is exactly how this would play out. The Arabs may hate the Israelis, but they fear the Persians. They may want to push the Jews into the sea, but they know the Jews won’t nuke them to expand Israel’s territory.
We noted a few days ago that the Arabs are curiously absent from, and even seem to protest, the Gog/Magog invasion of Israel and that the Bible seems to lay out a war between the West-backed Arabs and the East-backed Iranians and Turks. We may well be seeing the Holy One moving the pieces into place for some sort of reconciliation between Isaac and Ishmael down the road. Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to blog more on this scenario this week.
